Screen for fillers

The R&R has several basic rules to ensure 5 player coordination, but it also has some freedom for players to make their own decisions and the flexibility for the coach to modify it to the team's strengths and weaknesses. In the R&R you can do anything with your post players as long as they react correctly to dribble penetration. The R&R can look differently in the hands of every coach and every team.

So with that in mind I'd like to present a idea for what you can do with your post players in the offense: screening for fillers

One of the rules of layer 1 pass & cut says that if there's an empty spot on the perimeter between you and the ballhandler then you must fill it. Now what I want to do is use my post players to screen for perimeter players who fill an open spot to hinder their defenders from following and recovering to them. The objective is to get the ball to the fillers so they can score unguarded.

This is the rule I set for the post players in this variation of the R&R:
If the ballhandler on the perimeter passes east-west away from you then set a screen for the player who must fill the open spot.

This screen can help give the filler space to catch and shoot a three point shot or catch and attack the rim.

If you decide to try this with your team, or if you're a player trying this in a scrimmage, then let me know how it went.
