The Geography of the Read & React

On planet earth there are continents, countries and oceans. Now I want you to imagine a basketball court as a planet with it's own continents and oceans.

In the Read & React there are several spots for the players to play on:

C = Corner
W = Wing
TK = Top of the Key
HP = High Post
MP = Mid Post
SC = Short Corner
R&R world map with perimeter spots for 5 OUT.
R&R world map with perimeter spots for 4 OUT 1 IN.

Think of all the green spots on the court as countries or continents. The dark blue shaded area of the court represents oceans or no man's land. Do you like to travel? I know I do. Your goal with travel is to get on land to another country as soon as possible. So the ocean/ no man's land is not a place to stay, you're just passing through.

If you're travelling by plane you will often have to make a stopover at an airport before reaching your final destination. If you're travelling from the top of the key after making an east-west perimeter pass you will have to make a stopover at the Decision Box before travelling further to your next destination. Remember that the stopover is not a place to stay - you are only there temporarily for a short period of time. But while you're there you are free to choose your next destination.

So remember: get on land, stay out of no man's land.
